Kosmic Kabbalah Art
This combination of Kabbalah, meditation, and modern conceptual art produced a large series of kabbalistic/meditative paintings executed in watercolors and pen-and-ink. Friedman has developed his own original system of translating kabbalistic concepts into graphic shapes and colors based primarily on Sefer Yetzirah (the Book of Creation). Friedman is well-versed in classical Torah Texts (both conventional and esoteric) he is primarily self-taught, and prefers the way of the mystic - as independent and non-denominational as possible.
The Holy Palace | This is a meditation on the geometry of the ancient Kabbalistic classic Sefer Yetzirah.
This mandala is based on the numbers three, seven and twelve, which are the foundations of Sefer Yetzirah, and their relationship to color theory.
Focus your eyes in the center of the rainbow-colored six-pointed Magen David, relax and breathe.
Soon you'll see the entire picture as a colorful three-dimensional cube with twelve edges.
Calm your mind and enter into this Holy Palace. |
This picture is based on the Partzufim (Personifications) of Atzilut (the world of Emanation) described by the 16th century Zefat Kabbalist, Rabbi Isaac Luria.
This whole picture is only one figure - white-haired Grandfather Arikh Anpin (Large Face) who embraces his entire Family. A blue square is in the center of his featureless head that represents expanded consciousness - unconditional Love.
His beard descends and becomes Fathers and Mothers (Abba and Imma) who represent different levels of Wisdom and Understanding.
The three small figures in the head of the black-haired Son Zer Anpin (Small Face) represent constricted, conditional consciousness - his Wisdom, Understanding and Knowledge. | Family Tree of Life
|
Below him is the red-haired Daughter Nukba, the 'vessel' who receives and channels all of these states of consciousness and gives birth to her Baby - Beriyah (the world of Creation), Yetzirah (the world of Formation) and Asiyah (the world of Action).
