Tibetan Mandalas - Tibetische Mandalas

Mandala is Sanskrit for circle, polygon, community, connection.
The Mandala is a symbol of man or woman in the world, a support for the meditating person.
The mandala is often illustrated as a palace with four gates, facing the four corners of the Earth.
The Mandala shown here is connected with the Buddha Vajrasattva, who symbolises the original crystalline purity.
In the centre is a lotus blossom with eight petals, resting on a bed of jewels.

In the next place are the walls of the palace with gates towards the four corners of the earth. The gates are guarded by four angry doorkeepers.
Before the meditating person arrives at the gates, she must, however, pass the four outer circles: the purifying fire of wisdom, the vajra circle, the circle with the eight tombs, the lotus circle.

Representations of the spiritual embodiment of the Buddha are dkyil khor, or mandalas. The word dkyil khor means "center-circumference," and describes both the essential geometric structure and ritual significance of mandalas. Mandala: Buddhist Tantric Diagrams by Patrick A. George. (English)

The collection featured 14 fine Tibetan paintings of mandalas dating from the 13th to the 16th centuries, from Rossi & Rossi, London. While six of the paintings in the exhibition are now in private collections, seven are still available for purchase.

Ein Mandala ist auf den ersten Blick leicht zu erkennen, denn es handelt sich um die Darstellung eines Kreises, der fast das gesamte Rollbild ausfüllt. Ein Thangka mit einer "Mandala"-Darstellung (Sanskrit für "Kreis", tibetisch: "dKyil 'khor" dient ausschließlich der Meditation. D.h. das Bild dient als Vorlage für eine bestimmte Visualisierung, die in der Meditation realisiert werden soll.

This website is dedicated to helping individuals understand and apply the principles of alchemy. The most basic tenet of alchemy is that there are two primary ways of knowing reality, and learning to work with both of them is how we must begin the journey of transformation.
The first way of knowing is the rational, deductive, argumentative, intellectual thinking that is the hallmark of science and our patriarchal Western culture. The alchemists called this Solar Consciousness and assigned it many code words, such as the Sun, Sulfur, the King, the Father, Spirit, and ultimately, the One Mind of the universe.

Throughout this website, whenever the material involves left-brain activity like lists, linear thought, schematics, formulae, arguments and logic, the icon used will be Solar.
The alchemists called the other way of knowing Lunar Consciousness. This intelligence of the heart is a non-linear, image-driven, intuitive way of thinking that is an accepted tool of the arts and religion. Among its many symbols are the Moon, Mercury, the Queen, the Holy Ghost, Soul, and ultimately, the One Thing of the universe. Throughout this website, whenever the material involves right-brain activity dealing with drawings, paintings, mandalas, symbols, music, and meditation, the icon will be the Lunar glyph.
Whenever possible, material will be presented from both the King's and the Queen's viewpoints.

History of Tarot and Cartomancy

Tarot, and related card divination systems, has a wonderfully bizarre history which ranges from wealthy Italian Renaissance families (who had their own decks sumptuously hand painted) to the 18th century seer, Mademoiselle LeNormand, fortune teller to the Empress Josephine. In the 19th and 20th centuries, the tarot was developed further by a variety of colourful characters in France, Britain and America, among whom one of the most colourful was undoubtedly the self-styled 'Great Beast', Aleister Crowley.

Phrenology - Phrenologie

Phrenology was a science of character divination, faculty psychology, theory of brain and what the 19th-century phrenologists called "the only true science of mind." Phrenology came from the theories of the idiosyncratic Viennese physician Franz Joseph Gall (1758-1828).

Indian Gods and Goddesses

SURYA is one of the three chief gods of the Vedas. As one of the spheres, the physical sun is the celestial form of fire, Agni, and source of all life. SURYA is at the center of the spheres.Above it are the esoteric spheres of the Supreme Ruler and below it are the manifest spheres of the moon and the earth.
The other name of SURYA is SAVITRI, which means brilliance. In the later ages, like other many Vedic gods, this god became more or less a mythical figure superseded by Vishnu, who came to be regarded by Hindus as the supreme manifestation of the self-Existent the Supreme God. Still the most celebrated mantra (hymn), known as GAYATRI Mantra, is the incantation addressed to SURYA. Also many of the forms of meditation, prayers and rituals used in the daily ceremonies of Hindu Brahmins are addressed to this god.

Orb Over Florida

A curious orb floating above Florida has been sighted using Google's new satellite service.

I have no idea what this is. I can’t find anything similar on any google map referenced sites. It doesn’t show up on terraserver and I live nearby so I know there are no towers in that area. It has the same shadow as ground objects and when you zoom out it appears to be too small to be something really close to the satellite.


Explanations on the Google Sightseeing Board include genuine UFO, blimp, weather balloon and map data alignment markers.

Perfect Beauty - Temples of Thailand

Perfect Beauty is the only expression which comes to my mind when thinking of a Wat, a temple in the Thai language. Although it is the closest translation, it does not really convey the full meaning of the word Wat. It is much more than just a place of worship. Buddhism requires all male believers to spend some time in their life as a monk. So, a Thai temple is much more than just a monastery. It influences life, culture and education and the Wat is very much a community center.
