Flower Mandalas
![]() My personal motivation in creating this work, however, was to heal from a decade of both physical and emotional trauma. Subconsciously, I arrived at the mandala form with the hexagram -- the Star of David -- as its organizing shape. I believe my choice of the hexagram was no accident. In many traditions, this star, composed of two overlapping triangles, represents the reconciliation of opposites -- male/female, fire/water, and so on. Their combination symbolizes unity and harmony. ![]() In the Jewish tradition, the six points of the Star of David are also said to stand for God's rule over the universe in all six directions: north, south, east, west, up and down. Working with these forms by painting with light -- the literal definition of the term "photography" -- helped bring me back from the darkness into the light. Carl Jung, one of the fathers of modern psychology, believed mandalas are a pathway to the essential Self and used them in his own personal transformation. In a small way, as both mandala artist and psychotherapist, I carry on Jung's tradition. I hope these images will further the process of harnessing the power of the mandala to heal. ![]() Making these images feels, to me, like I am in wordless conversation with natural elements far more profound than anything I could create myself. The experience of photographing and of editing is reminiscent of meditation. Flower Mandalas by David J. Bookbinder Saturday, 13. September 2008

Magic Landscapes
At the first glance, the oil paintings of Michael Kraehmer may appear to be photographs. However, they are not reproductions of visual reality, but reflect meditative visions of the artist. Not the geographic location of a landscape is of relevance to him, but it's atmosphere, it's spiritual effect on the spectator. Thus, the paintings actually depict spiritual landscapes which are expressions of mental experiences. ![]() The paintings invite you to expose yourself to their cosmic silence and to lose yourself into their magic realm. Our perception is intrigued to enter infinite imaginary worlds, where sometimes the doors of perception open beyond the horizon, to reveal even further light-flooded transcendental spheres. ![]() Magic Landscapes The fantastic-realistic oil paintings of Michael Kraehmer (English and German) Monday, 09. The Worlds of Gilbert Williams
![]() Moon Temple Visionary Art is a form of Surrealism which contains two unique paradigms of reality represented naturalistically, and it contains an uplifting message or spiritual content. The way in which Visionary Art differs from classical Surrealism is that classical Surrealism or social surrealism often contains negative imagery. Visionary Art is unique in that often it brings light into a dark perspective, speaking to people of hope, peace, greater possibilities, and grander futures. His canvases glow with transcendent light and a remarkable panorama of archetypal images: temples, groves, lakes and light beings, goddesses and nature spirits, moons and magical mountains. Charles Gilchrist: Sacred Geometry
This Gilchrist Mandala combines geometric and representational symbolism. This is a classical Mandala in the sense that it emphasizes the four directions and the squared circle. The major geometric element is a Solar Cross with four rays at each of the cardinal directions. This form is an ancient icon appearing all over the world. The Solar Cross is a tremendously powerful meditational archetype. ![]() Journey To The Sacred Mountain In this Mandala we look through the Solar Cross. The outer corners the Mandala make abstracted reference to the four elements, Earth and Fire below, Water and Air above. These abstracted outer sections blend into a stylized landscape inspired by the Reo Grand gorge located in northern New Mexico. This Mandala was created in 1992, requiring hundreds of hours of open-eyed meditation. ![]() Through his own studies, spanning three decades, Gilchrist discovered the classical concepts of open-eyed meditation and began to create Mandalas as a path to self-discovery. This led him to create hundreds of fine art Mandalas over the past 25 years. Charles Gilchrist: Sacred Geometry Charles Gilchrist: Introduction to Sacred Geometry: More clips at his YouTube Channel. The Art of Travis Louie
![]() Hypno-Krampus This fastidious Krampus always has a pair of disembodied hands levitating in front of it, constantly gesturing like some vaudeville magician(at times, even performing "slight of hand" tricks) For the most part, he uses his hypnotic gaze to put children into a trance, convincing them that they are chickens or chartered accountants working for a firm about to be audited by some large, ruthless government agency(scary stuff). Spooky pop surrealist Travis Louie created his own imaginary world that is grounded in Victorian and Edwardian times. It is inhabited by human oddities, mythical beings, and otherworldly characters who appear to have had their formal portraits taken to mark their existence and place in society. The underlining thread that connects all these characters is the unusual circumstances that shape who they were and how they lived. Some of their origins are a complete mystery while others are hinted at. He's created portraits from an alternate universe that seemingly may or may not have existed. Travis Louie is also one of 50 Artists featured in the second publication entitled Metamorphosis 2. Monday, 21. April 2008

The Space and Astronomical Art of Mark A. Garlick
Here you see a pair of protoplanetary discs (“propyds” for short) forming inside the vast star factory known as the Orion Nebula. The Hubble Space Telescope actually photographed these objects, which will one day become stars and, perhaps, planetary systems. ![]() This site showcases over 130 of my artworks, mostly with a spacey or astronomical flavour. There are nine galleries of space art, arranged in separate categores. There is one gallery which contains what I call space surrealism. The Space and Astronomical Art of Mark A. Garlick.
