A Field Guide to Identifying Unicorns by Sound

I can truthfully tell you that it is
a blessing to talk with a unicorn.
—N. J. W. Mitchell,
Hannah, the Witch, and the Unicorn (2002)

image

Here’s a secret: expert unicorn spotters can “see” more unicorns, per capita, with their eyelids shut than the average person can see with eyes wide open. That’s because they have an intimate friendship with the sounds unicorns make. As you concentrate with eyes closed and mind focused, you may detect the telltale song of the unicorn, announcing the presence of the venerable creature and beckoning you to begin your quest. When you open your eyes, the unicorn may not be immediately visible, but you’ll know where to start looking.

image

Mystics from time immemorial have believed the alphabet to encapsulate divine creative power. This illustration from the late 1800’s shows how the entire alphabet is crystallized in a unicorn’s body. It’s little wonder, then, that unicorns are such miraculous communicators.

Hearing a unicorn requires time, patience, and “deep listening” skill on the part of the human, and vocal projection on the part of the unicorn. Because we live in a highly visual world, we rarely exercise the full range of our hearing. Yet our ears can detect things that our eyes automatically neglect. By listening as opposed to looking, we can avoid overlooking. Practice can be richly rewarding, whether one is listening for unicorns in particular or neglected delights in general.

They do speak, sir, although not with words.
The unicorn sent her thoughts right into my head.
I understood her meaning.

A soft gentle voice whispers in your mind as if carried
by the breeze passing through the gentle grove.

Numerology by Lancaster Online.
His name is Brian and, like many of us, he is seeking answers about his life. One recent Monday afternoon, he called Alison Baughman, of Akron, via her Internet radio show "Visible By Numbers" and asked for help. He told her his birthday is April 10, 1975. She did a few calculations and told him that he has had a difficult childhood, but that it has taught him compassion and empathy.

UFO believer exposes fakes, faces resistance from locals by Arizona Republic. With Video.
To most of us, they're easily explained as planes, plastic bags, birds or balloons. To a select few, those lights, shadows and unidentified objects they see flying or lingering in the desert sky are proof that earthlings are not alone. Rich Giordano filmed such an event on Val Vista Drive in Mesa in late April, and claims it was a fleet of ships performing exercises in the northern sky.

The Surprising Realities of Mythical Creatures by LiveScience.

While sailing the ocean near Haiti, Christopher Columbus in 1493 reported seeing three mermaids from a distance. The Genoese explorer was not impressed. In a new exhibition opening at the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) here this weekend, viewers can digitally superimpose the picture of a mermaid atop that of a manatee and see how Columbus and countless other sailors might have been fooled.

Ghostly Goings On by This Is Lancashire.
Sonia, a dinner lady by day, a "sensitive" believer by night, has been interested in paranormal activity for as long as she can remember. She said: "It started when I was eight-years-old and my grandfather passed away. One day one of my cousins came up to me and said they had seen our grandfather at the bottom of his bed one night and that's how I got into it." She explained that as a "sensitive", "You can feel the energies about you when you're sitting in a dark room.

Pirates of the Paranormal by InfoWorld.
Remember spoon-bending psychic Uri Geller? The cutlery-abusing 70's icon got bent out of shape recently after a video clip debunking his paranormal abilities surfaced on YouTube. Geller sent a DMCA take-down notice to YouTube, claiming the clip infringed his copyright. YouTube removed the clip and suspended the poster's account.

It's back, though – and you can watch it here:

On the trail of those bumps in the night by This is Local London.
Take a look inside one building in Wallington and you will see figures moving. Take a closer look inside and you will see each one of those figures is equipped with a camera. Take a closer, and longer, look still and you will see a strange look in their eyes - a look which is perhaps part concentration and part fear. They are members of Spiral, a new Sutton-based group who investigate the paranormal.

Speaking in tongues by The Telegraph.
According to “The New Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible,” it defines “tongues,” translated from the Greek word “glossa”: “the tongue; by implication a language, specifically one not naturally acquired.” In other words, the definition implies speaking in tongues is a supernatural occurrence presumably given by the Holy Ghost, also called the Holy Spirit, which is a being of the Trinity — the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost. Therefore, it cannot be proved that tongues are “real” in a scientific, naturally occurring way.

Man gained fame tracking Bigfoot by The Tribune Democrat.

Exactly 20 years ago – on May 17, 1987 – Sam met Bigfoot. And everything changed. On the night he met Bigfoot, Sam had gone to fish at nearby Loyalhanna Creek, but soon returned. “He wouldn’t say anything,” Naomi said. “For about two days, he kept it to himself. But, he never went down there to do nighttime fishing again.”

Psychological Self-Help

However, before trying to change we must realize that a specific change is needed and we must believe change is possible. The first step below, selecting a self-help project, gives you several suggestions for overcoming your reluctance to try to change. The key is to think about the problem--don't avoid it--by reading about it, talking to others about it, and thinking how life would honestly be better without the problem.

After deciding to improve in some specific way, then obviously you need to understand your problem, overcome your fears of changing and failing to change, and start to figure out exactly how you can make the changes you want.

image

This entire book helps you do those things. Self-help takes a lot of knowledge, it isn't just a simple matter of having the "will power" to do something, although you must be motivated to get the knowledge and skills you need to change.

Sumerian Origin Of Humans

This is a video about ancient Sumerian Myths.

Zecharia Sitchin is a best-selling author of books promoting the ancient astronaut theory for human origins. He attributes the creation of the ancient Sumerian culture to the Annunaki (or Nephilim) from a hypothetical planet named Nibiru in the solar system. He asserts that Sumerian mythology reflects this view, though his speculations are largely ignored by mainstream scientists and historians.

Zecharia Sitchin uncovers the lost and hidden archives of the Annunaki: Where did these Anunaki come from? Sitchin says and NASA scientists concur, that there may be a mysterious 10th member to our solar system: The planet the Sumerians called Nibiru.

Some interesting bits on the history of the Sumerians and as always: you decide.

Metatron Meditation Pyramid:
Formed from two large tetrahedrons that are merged, forming a 6 pointed star at the base. A tetrahedron sits at each of the 6 points of the star, and a Clear Quartz Etheric Weaver hangs in each Corner Tetrahedron. It is 6' 11" high with a base that is 8' x 9' 3" and is normally used for a seated meditation.

The pyramid is an invocation to the 7 Archangels and comes with Archangel cards to attach to the Clear Etheric Weavers. Archangel Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, Uriel, Zadkiel and Shekinah (in that order) adorn the middle of each of the corner tetrahedrons and Archangel Metatron sits within the star tetrahedron that hangs from the center of the pyramid.

Vajra Weavers:
Working on the physical, emotional and mental bodies and aligning them back to their perfect divine nature. This sacred tool is used like a pendulum - simply hold it over anything or anyone, clear your mind and allow the Etheric Weaver to spin freely as it works to realign the Etheric Field and transmute any negativity, aligning the individual to the Soul, also known as Buddha Nature.

Much more than just a crystal, the Etheric Weaver can be handed to anyone to use for their own self-healing or meditation and constantly cleans itself energetically.

Etheric Weaver

Solar Orb Cross:
Amplifies the energy found in sacred influences throughout the planet, for example right now there is a lot of healing in the area of Tibetan Buddhism and other spiritual levels awakening on a planetary level - much more than 10 years ago.

So whatever the planetary stage, it is able to bring out more of that energy and the solar cross becomes more an emanation of that.

The solar cross amplifies the solar rays on a planetary level so that higher levels of psychic telepathy and higher levels of planetary healing of nations becomes more a resonating factor of the solar cross.

Magic Baths

Taking a Magical Bath doesn't have to be complicated. It can be as simple as running to your local drug or beauty supply and buying a product that is appropriately scented or contains an herb or essential oil.

The important thing about taking one of these baths, no matter how humble or expensive the ingredients are, is to meditate on your intention while you are sitting in the tub.

You can get a little fancier, by making an infusion from flowers, herbs or other elements. Brewing the herbs as you would brew a cup of herbal tea and then pouring the strained infusion into your bath water is the easiest way to make an infusion. You can also put the ingredients in a cheesecloth bag that hangs over the bathtub faucet and have the hot water run through the ingredients.

image

In some cases you can actually buy tea bags and just toss them in the water. I'm a purist so personally I love to throw the entire herb, flower or vegetable in the bath. It makes me feel like I am Cleopatra having a bath in ancient Egypt or like some kind of wicked harlot getting ready for her Roman Soldier. However if you do decide to get really into the food aspect of this make sure you have some kind of strainer on your drain so that stuff doesn't flow down your pipes. What can I say? Some miracles can be quite "messy".

Here are a couple of "quick fixes" for aspiring witches on the run:

Crop Circle Science

Keep your eyes open as the 2007 crop circle season nears!

Historical Indications That Crop Circles Are Not "New": Although most people think of the cropcircles as a modern phenomenon (and wonder if modern technology may be responsible), there is some evidence that the circles have been appearing off-and-on for hundreds of years.

Here is one of the best-documented accounts:

image

Drawings of two U.K. crop formations described in 1686 by Prof. Robert Plot. Plot examined multiple such formations and states that the soils "under all of them were much looser and dryer than ordinary, and the parts interspersed with a white hoar... much like that in mouldy bread, of a musty rancid smell, but to the tast[e] insipid." --A Natural History of Staffordshire (1686)

More at Other Facts

image

The physical changes documented in crop circle plants by Michigan biophysicist W.C. Levengood have been determined by evaluating hundreds of sample plants -- both downed and standing -- taken from inside the overall perimeter of each formation against hundreds of control plants taken at varying distances outside each formation, in several directions. More than 250 individual crop formations from multiple countries, over a 10-year period were examined in-depth. Although many of the formations studied were relatively "simple" in overall design and/or relatively "small" in overall size, many larger and more "complex" formations -- those whose overall design included intricate geometric shapes with multiple design elements of varying sizes -- are represented here.

Plant Abnormalities

The BLT Research Team Inc.'s primary focus is crop circle research - the discovery, scientific documentation and evaluation of physical changes induced in plants, soils and other materials at crop circle sites by the energy (or energy system) responsible for creating them and to determine, if possible, from these data the specific nature and source of these energies. Secondly, our intent is to publish these research results in peer-reviewed scientific journals and to disseminate this information to the general public through lectures, mainstream articles and the internet.

BLT Inc. is composed of several hundred trained field-sampling personnel in the U.S., Canada and Europe who collect plant and soil samples at crop circle sites for analyses by a number of scientists in various disciplines.

An Historical Overview of the Whereabouts

An Historical Overview of the Whereabouts of Gnomes and Elves, Fauns and Faeries, Goblins, Ogres, Trolls and Bogies, Nymphs, Sprites, and Dryads

A long, long time ago, the Earth belonged to the creatures of the wood. By creatures of the wood I mean gnomes, elves, faeries, etc. They tended it and took care of it, played in it, danced and sang in it, cared for wounded animals, worked out disputes between species, sat on mushrooms discussing matters of importance and drinking Labrador tea, rode down streams on leaves and bark, parachuted from trees on dandelion seeds. This was the world into which mankind was born. These early days, when man was but a newly arrived dinner guest who hadn't yet taken over the house, are fairly well documented in the literature and folklore of the world, so there's no need to go into it here. What I am interested in, and what I am asking you to be interested in, is the question, "Where did all the gnomes, elves, faeries, etc. go?"

The friction between man and the wood creatures began with the discovery of agriculture. With this discovery civilization arose and spread. The forests were cleared to provide wood for shelters and fields for pastures and crops. Mankind had set up camp.

image

No longer just a visitor in someone else's world, he pushed the wild back from his newly built doorstep. At first, this wasn't a problem. There weren't that many people and everyone else felt that it was only fair to allot them their own half-acre to do with as they wished. Some of them even decided to help out. Gnomes moved into the barn houses and helped with the gardening chores. The devic spirits of the vegetables helped humans better organize their crops and plan rotation; taught them the correlation between planetary and lunar cycles and the agricultural year. They taught them to plant radishes when the moon is in Cancer, harvest when the moon is in Taurus. Many trolls felt that the heaping piles of manure were a change for the better, and decided to stick around too.

Secrets Of The Ancients: Hanging Gardens

The Hanging Gardens of Babylon (also known as Hanging Gardens of Semiramis), one of the Seven Wonders of the World, which symbolised power, extravagance and wealth, but remains shrouded in mystery.

The lush Hanging Gardens are extensively documented by Greek historians such as Strabo and Diodorus Siculus, but otherwise there is little evidence for their existence. In fact, there are no Babylonian records of any such gardens having existed.

In this BBC Production, a team of experts visit the Jordanian desert on a quest to discover the mythical oasis.

The Pictorial Symbols of Alchemy

image

THE Hermetic Mystery- upon the higher interpretation of which I have spoken at considerable length in the previous paper and have created an analogy between its hidden meaning and that which I should term the centre of the Religions Mystery in Christendom- is the only branch of mystic and occult literature which lent itself to the decorative sense. I suppose that there are few people comparatively who at this day have any notion of the extent to which that sense was developed in the books of the adepts. It will be understood that in speaking now upon this subject I am leaving my proper path, but though the fact does not seem to have been registered, it is so utterly curious to note how a literature which is most dark and inscrutable of all has at the same time its lighter side- a side, indeed, of pleasant inventions, of apologue, of parable, of explicit enigma, above all of poetry. The fact is that alchemy presented itself as an art, its books were the work of artists; and for the sympathetic reader, even when he may understand them least, they will read sometimes like enchanting fables or legends. When in this manner some of the writers had exhausted their resources in language, they had recourse to illustrations, and I wonder almost that no one has thought to collect the amazing copper-plates which literally did adorn the Latin and other tracts of the seventeenth century.

It is a matter of common report that the old Hermetic adepts were the chemists of their time and that, as such, they made numerous and valuable discoveries. This is true in a general sense, but under what is also a general and an exceedingly grave reserve. There is little need to say in the first place, that the spiritual alchemists made no researches and could have had no findings in the world of metals and minerals.

Secondly, there was a great concourse of witnesses in secret literature, who were adepts of neither branch; but they expressed their dreams and speculations in terms of spurious certitude, and were often sincere in the sense that they deceived themselves. They produced sophistications in the physical work and believed that their tinctures and colorations were the work of philosophy; these discovered nothing, and misled nearly every one.

The Green Man

His face stares down at us from the roofs , pillars and doorways of our great cathedrals and churches, he appears on second century Roman columns in Turkey and in Jain temples in Rajasthan.

He is found all over England, some parts of Wales and Scotland and a few rare places in Ireland.

On the continent he has been seen and noted in Germany, France, Italy, Holland and is said to be found in Spain, Hungary and Poland. India and Malaysia have their own Green Man and though he doesn't seem to appear in Native American traditions he can be seen in his modern role as a bringer of fortune on the walls of banks in New York and Chicago.

image

The Mystery of the Green Man by Mike Harding.
Many good pictures, including Asian examples

image

‘The Green Man’, a name coined by Lady Raglan in 1939, is a mediaeval image usually found in churches. Carved in stone or wood, depicted on stained glass, illuminated manuscripts and where else, he can be recognised as a face, often grotesque, with foliage sprouting from his mouth, nose, eyes or ears. Alternatively, he may be a face composed entirely of leaves. Exterior or interior, he features on capitals, corbels, choir stalls, bench ends, fonts, screens, roof bosses - indeed, any surface open to ornamentation.

However, the mighty questions of who, what and why - the search for a meaning behind the symbol - have no answer yet.

The Green Man - Variations on a theme by Ruth Wylie.

In the older religions, trees were held sacred; forest groves were perceived as the dwelling place of gods, goddesses, and a wide variety of nature spirits. Some scholars now think modern May Day revels were once part of pagan spring fertility rites (complete with pole representing the phallus) since the pageants have overtly sexual elements — and yet we can never really know for certain, for the original meanings of the ceremonies have been lost through the centuries, and the Church was quick to assign lewd connotations to all pagan practices.

A staunchly animist outlook (with a strong reverence for trees and the holiness of nature) was particularly entrenched among the peoples in the far north of Europe and in the British Isles.

The Green Man and The Green Woman by Terri Windling.

image

The Green Man is one of the commonest decorative motifs which we can put a name to, yet there is very little indication of its meaning. We know what an angel is; we know what a mermaid and a dragon are but we know almost nothing about the face made out of leaves.

The Search for the Green Man

Many pictures from the Green Man in Canterbury, Kent, Devon and Green Man Curiosities.

For me the Green Man is a symbol of our connection with nature, with the earth, a reminder that we are a part of the cycle of life and death of all living things on earth. He is for me a reminder of our humility and weakness against nature.
