For over a thousand years, storytellers have spun tales of King Arthur of Britain, his Queen Guinevere, and the circle of his noble Knights. Why do these stories endure? How does an outlaw in Lincoln green with a taste for disguise and foolery survive for six hundred years to inspire disguised tricksters from Alta California to Revolutionary France to the farthest reaches of the galaxy?

How have these songs and stories twisted and turned over the centuries, and how have they defined our expectations of heroism, romance, and adventure?

This is Paula Kate Marmor's personal journey through the worlds of Robin Hood, King Arthur, D'Artagnan, and other swashbuckling characters of balladry, fiction, and film, from the shores of Avalon to the dungeons of Zenda.

Among others Fairy Tales, Sagas & Sea-Kings, Paladins & Princes, King Arthur and Robin Hood.

Astronomers Find First Earth-like Planet in Habitable Zone by The European Southern Observatory (ESO). WITH VIDEO.
Astronomers have discovered the most Earth-like planet outside our Solar System to date, an exoplanet with a radius only 50% larger than the Earth and capable of having liquid water. Using the ESO 3.6-m telescope, a team of Swiss, French and Portuguese scientists discovered a super-Earth about 5 times the mass of the Earth that orbits a red dwarf, already known to harbour a Neptune-mass planet.

New 'super-Earth' found in space by BBC.
"We have estimated that the mean temperature of this 'super-Earth' lies between 0 and 40 degrees Celsius, and water would thus be liquid," explained Stephane Udry of the Geneva Observatory, lead author of the scientific paper reporting the result.

Pilot spots 'UFO' over Guernsey by BBC.
Captain Ray Bowyer was flying an Aurigny plane from Southampton to Alderney when he saw the objects through binoculars. Mr Bowyer said he was "pretty shook-up" by the sighting. "This is not something you see every day of the week - it was pretty scary," he said. At first he thought it was the sun reflecting from greenhouses in Guernsey. He said the objects were bright like the sun, but did not hurt his eyes when he looked at them.

Unidentified flying discs. Secret military missions. Government cover-ups.

Chakra Meditations

Enable for those who desire relaxation to achieve it by taking (only!) 2 minutes of the daily routine. This meditation for relaxation, working with each chakra separately.

Just listen, breathe and relax ...

First open & balance the Root Chakra, the primary Chakra:

Open & balance the Sacral Chakra, the second Chakra:

Open & relax the Solar Plexus Chakra, the third Chakra:

Open & balance the Heart Chakra, the fourth Chakra:

Now open & relax the Throat Chakra, the fifth Chakra:

Open & balance the Third Eye Chakra, the sixth Chakra:

In this series, unfortuantely the seventh chakra is missing ... but I found another visual meditation for the Crown Chakra.

Situated over the top of the head, the Crown Chakra spins at tremendous speed, and is often referred to as the Thousand Petalled Lotus.

A short exercise:
Focus your attention at the crown of your head. This chakra is violet near the body, fading to white further away. This chakra governs your connection to the Universe/God/Goddess/The Creator ... This chakra is like an umbilical cord to "home". Reflect on your spirituality of late, examine the chakra and allow any healing needed. In my experience this chakra generally needs much less work than the others. Allow the hands to heal, to cleanse, and recycle the discarded energy in the sun. Now examine the chakra. It is brilliantly violet, glowing white around the outside. Mentally reach out to that which you consider your "source ..." to the Universe. Feel the response, the energy flowing back to you. Pray for the peace and joy of a strong crown chakra connection. Feel the violet energy flowing in, a loving embrace of your whole self, of your soul. See the crown chakra grow enormous, and the white energy surround your body.

This is another exercise I suggest to open your Crown Chakra. Try it!

· Breathe in and as you do, imagine the white sunny ball of fierce bright light that I am going to call the Higher Self Sun hovering about six feet about your head.

· Now imagine that there is another sunny ball of yellow light glowing in your upper tummy (your solar plexus.).

· As you breathe out imagine the Higher Self light shooting a Star Trek-like sharp focused beam of light, straight down through the crown (the very top of your head to energize this ball of light that is in your solar plexus.

· For the next ten breaths, imagine energy shooting up from your solar plexus area to the Sun above your head as you inhale, and the energy shooting back down with each exhale. Imagine your entire stomach area filled with a brilliant, honey-colored, warm golden light.

· Now imagine your heart’s center as a small pink pinpoint of light. Each time you breathe in, your solar plexus reaches for that energy from the Higher Self in the sky.

· Now when you breathe out, the super-charged solar plexus chakra sends energy back up towards your heart center. The pinpoint of light in your heart is like a small shining star that gets brighter and larger with each breath. You are feeding the heart’s center, using the solar plexus chakra as a conduit for the energy from the higher self.

· With each breath that you breathe out, this pinpoint of light in your heart chakra grows brighter and brighter and larger and larger…. until it starts to resemble a little fountain.

· This fountain shoots white light upwards, higher and higher, until releases a spray of light that falls from the crown (the top of your head) to your feet. Every time you breathe out, your body is showered in a spray of rainbow colored lights. Imagining a fountain of diamonds is always good.

· By now, each time as you breathe, the following sequence should be taking place: you inhale and send solar plexus energy up through the crown of your head to the Higher Self Sun six feet above your head. You exhale and the Higher Self sends energy downwards to the solar plexus which sends energy to the heart’s center which explodes in a fountain of light that circulates to the top of head, showers to your feet and back up again.

· With each breath, you are now rinsing yourself with holy light from the Higher Self. This is an efficient way of opening your chakras and increasing your receptivity to messages from your higher self and the angels.

Take a journey up and through your 7th chakra and beyond!

The Pointer of the Aztec Calendar

At the center of the pointer of the Aztec Calendar there appears the face of Tonatiuh, the Sun. For this reason, the commonly-know Aztec Calendar has been identified as La piedra del sol, or the Sun Stone. We shall refer to the Aztec Calendar by its common name.

The Aztec Calendar's design is based on a set of concentric rings, divided into eight segments. The concentric ring around the fase of Tonatiuh consists of the Nahui Ollin, signifying 4 movement.

The four square-like spaces contain the glyphs for a) Nahui Ocelot (4 Tiger); b) Nahui Ehecatl (4 Wind); c) Nahui Quiahuitl (4 Rain); and d) Nahui Atl or Atonatiuh (4 Water). Above Tonatiuh is a double lunar-solar ray (e).

Below Tonatiuh, we may also observe the breastplate with two quinounx (f) and five featherlike (g) figures, respectively representing the quantities of 52 and 104 (as well as other designated sums). The claw-like figures (h) on either side of the face are said to represent those of an eagle, clutching human hearts, possibly representing a sacrifice to the Sun. The reader should also note the five coordinate circles (i), which have also been identified as representing specific numerical quantities.

There is much debate about the significance of the elements in the pointer of the Aztec Calendar, as there is regarding almost all of the elements of the calendar itself. This brief essay is not concerned, however, with the specific interpretation of the elements within the pointer of the calendar; a subject which will be discussed in subsequent essays. Rather, we shall examine the design of the pointer and its possible relationship to the concentric ring that contains the day glyphs.

Richard Dawkins - The Root of All Evil?

In this two-part Channel 4 series, Professor Richard Dawkins challenges what he describes as 'a process of non-thinking called faith'. Dawkins is well known for bringing to a wide audience the complex scientific concepts that underpin evolution. His first book, The Selfish Gene was an international bestseller.

Part 1, aired on Channel 4, January 2006:
He describes his astonishment that, at the start of the 21st century, religious faith is gaining ground in the face of rational, scientific truth. Science, based on scepticism, investigation and evidence, must continuously test its own concepts and claims. Faith, by definition, defies evidence: it is untested and unshakeable, and is therefore in direct contradiction with science.

In addition, though religions preach morality, peace and hope, in fact, says Dawkins, they bring intolerance, violence and destruction. The growth of extreme fundamentalism in so many religions across the world not only endangers humanity but, he argues, is in conflict with the trend over thousands of years of history for humanity to progress – to become more enlightened and more tolerant.
-- Channel 4

The God Delusion (48 minutes)

Part 2, aired on Channel 4, January 2006:
How is it, asks Richard Dawkins, that despite science having exposed old religious myths, militant faith is back on the march? The mechanism for perpetuating beliefs that Dawkins describes as leading to murderous intolerance, is by imposing religion on children who are too inexperienced to judge it for themselves

We wouldn't categorise children according to their parents' political stance, says Dawkins, since they are too young to make up their minds about such matters. But we segregate them in sectarian religious schools, where they are taught superstitions drawn from ancient scriptures of dubious origin, which promote a 'contradictory and poisonous system of morals'.

Dawkins compares this to a virus, which infects the young and is passed down the generations.

Photo Gallery of Japanese Zen Gardens

Monotonous rocks instead of colorful flowers; dry, gray sand as a substitute for glass-clear water; moss supplementing cherished flowerbeds. Even this can be a description of a garden. Everyone can recognize them at the first glance, but few can depict them in words.

The Japanese Garden by Bowdoin

Although many of these gardens are located within Zen monasteries, this site does not explore the influence of Zen Buddhism on Japanese garden design, an influence that is often conjectural at best. Instead, the site is designed to provide the visitor with an opportunity to visit each garden, to move through or around it, to experience it through the medium of high-quality color images.

Self Help: An Easy Guide to a Healthy Aura

Most of us are unaware of the health of our auras or life energy. We go about our daily business without ever giving a second thought to a very vital part of our lives. For the majority of people auras are intangible, invisible the notion of life energy is purely an idea or abstract concept, not a thing that can be monitored and measured easily like blood pressure or insulin levels. Yet life energy or auras are just as real and important as any other measurement of our health and well being.

Just because you can't see an aura doesn't mean it isn't there. You can't see a radio wave or an x-ray, but you know they exist.

The truth is that auras and life energy can be measured with today's instruments. Modern medicine, being what it is, just hasn't made the technology widely available. Anyone interested in maintaining a healthy aura today must rely on others capable of seeing or sensing life energies.

Fortunately there are many practices available which we can utilize ourselves to help insure a healthy and balanced aura.

Sacred Visions: Astrological Charts

Astrological Chart
(Tibetan: sid pa ho)

As both an instructional tool and auspicious talisman the stylized astrological chart brings good fortune to all those who see, display or possess it. The painting is a congregation of astrological, calendar and primary element symbols. The central image is of a yellow tortoise - emanation of the bodhisattva Manjushri, lying on the back with the head to the top and the four limbs extended holding green squares in the claws. In the center of the round flat belly is a circle of nine variously coloured squares containing the 9 magic numbers (Tib.: me wa gu). Surrounding, on a black wheel against an orange background are the 8 trigrams (Tib.: par kha ge) of Chinese origin. The outer circle contains the 12 animal figures of the 60 Year Cycle; surrounded by the outer edge of tortoise shell. At both sides the symbols of the planets are used to represent the days of the week; sun, moon, eye, hand, arrow, kila, sheaf and the head of a bird representing Rahu (eclipse). The five elements of earth, fire, water, iron and wood are represented by the green squares in the claws, the surrounding fire, blue pond of water below, vajra sceptre above the pond and the green leafed sprig from a tree at the left side.

Early Paintings from Central Tibet is the catalogue of a landmark exhibition (1998-99) of more than sixty of the finest extant Tibetan works from museums and private collections around the world. Closed to the West until the early twentieth century, Tibet was abruptly closed again in the 1950s by the Chinese. In spite of the loss of much of the staggering wealth of Tibetan monasteries and other monuments since that time, a number of masterpieces have survived in Western collections.

Tarot Teachings

Opening the Tarot Door

All humanity is intimate with the idea there is more to our lives than what meets our eyes. We instinctually strive beyond the limitations of the five senses.

From the fuzzy edges of our psychic vision we see glimmers of events that intrigue us...

* Where do we go for clarity when these glimmery subtleties appear?

* How can we get perspective when we’re faced with questions about ourselves, our community, our future, present and past?

* Upon what may we rely to provide us guidance when we are still yet unsure of our own worth and power?

They may not be the answers we want to hear or we may misunderstand them, but answers are always available to us.

Absolutely, the Tarot serves as both message and messenger to vital questions we have about our lives. But the Tarot is not the end-all, be-all of oracles.

Tarot is an effective tool.

Just as a painter commands the brush and a sculptor masters the chisel, the Tarot is another tool in an arsenal of resources we can use for our personal development and understanding.

This website is devoted to individuals who use their own minds, hearts and faith as their primary navigation system and desire to use the Tarot to augment their natural growth.

Additionally, Tarot Teachings is committed to re-establishing the honorable, timeless wonder that accompanies the use of Tarot. 3D Unveils the Mystery of the Great Pyramid

It all began 4,500 years ago, when a civilisation that knew nothing of iron tools, the wheel or pulleys built one of the most mysterious monuments in the entire history of humankind: the Pyramid of Khufu in Egypt.
How did they do it? Nobody alive today knows with any certainty.

The secret of the construction of the pyramid of Khufu in Egypt has always held people in fascination. Numerous theories have been put forward but none has yetstood up to analysis.

Eight years ago, the architect Jean-Pierre Houdin had a flash of intuition and developed a revolutionary theory. Considering Khufu' monumental undertaking as the first industrial construction project in history, he turned to Dassault Systèmes technology to test his hypotheses and feed his thought processes. So it was that he joined the 'Passion for Innovation' programme.

Having demonstrated the validity of the theory with the aid of their scientific 3D solutions, Dassault Systèmes invite you to enjoy an extraordinary journey through time and space. Relive the Great Pyramid construction project in real-time 3D!
