Roswell Celebrates UFO’s 60th
The town of Roswell, New Mexico, celebrates the 60th anniversary of its most famous event - the supposed crash-landing of a UFO in 1947 - with the Amazing Roswell UFO Festival, July 5-8.
Roswell is inviting UFO enthusiasts and skeptics alike to join the four-day event, which will feature guest speakers, authors, live entertainment, family-friendly activities and possibly an alien abduction. The City of Roswell is coordinating the annual festival, which it expects to attract more than 50,000 visitors.

Scientists warn that world needs to keep an eye on asteroids

About twice a year, an asteroid smashes into Earth’s atmosphere with the force of a Hiroshima-size atomic blast. And those are small ones, scientists say; the space rocks vaporize before they can do any harm. When the big one hits, we won’t be as fortunate. Researchers at the recent American Association for the Advancement of Science meeting warned that it is inevitable that an asteroid large enough to crack the atmosphere will hit the planet.

Prime Minister Tony Blair’s website makes it possible for the British public to express their feelings by posting and signing petitions electronically. The latest subject is Scottish materialisation medium Helen Duncan who was tried and found guilty under the Witchcraft Act (since repealed) – making her technically one of the country’s last “witches”.

How could our government not be interested in an unknown, highly technological object hovering over a major airport, as reported by competent airline personnel? What about passenger safety? Or national security? Or just plain scientific curiosity? Unless the FAA and other federal agencies shift gears, this mind-boggling incident at O’Hare will be left to haunt us — until the next time, when something even more alarming could happen.
