The Sun: Of Science and Faith
The Sun', is a beautiful mixture of science and faith. NASA provides the science with incredible close-up images of the Sun, solar flares, a total eclipse, and almost liquid-like video of particles streaming out into the solar system. A reading from the Bible puts the imagery in context, with the first six verses of Psalm 19 giving the images meaning and grandeur.

Seasons of New France
 | A wind of change blows over the native territory of North America, a new wind coming from France and bringing both a different way of life and the Word of God. Filled with hope, European civilians and missionaries create and cultivate a microcosm that cannot take root smoothly. Confronted with an unspoiled, unyielding wilderness, they are obliged to adapt to a perpetually changing climate: the dry cold of winter, the gentle warmth of spring, the searing heat of summer and the legendary coolness of fall.
The first religious groups to set foot in New France began their new life by undertaking an important missionary enterprise. This enterprise cannot be dissociated from the introduction of religion in New France since it is the main purpose of the colony. |
To carry out christianisation efficiently, missionaries played many roles such as interpreters and explorers. They were the spearhead of the enterprise and explored territories that were until then unknown to the French.
Apart from the religious rituals in which the believers had to take part, one could find in New France a "micro-rituality" consisting of an infinite number of tirelessly-repeated small private gestures. Morning and evening prayers, reciting one's rosary in front of a pious image, wearing the scapular, prayer on the road or at the foot of a roadside cross, the station in the parish church especially to adore the Saint Sacrament, cross signs at every stage of the day, the angelus rung three times a day were among the many acts that were part of the daily rituals.
