 | It might be good to clarify a few common misunderstandings about meditation right off the bat. First, meditation is best thought of as a way of being, rather than a technique or a collection of techniques.
I'll say it again.
Meditation is a way of being, not a technique. |
This doesn't mean that there aren't methods and techniques associated with meditation practice. There are. In fact, there are hundreds of them, and we will be making good use of some of them. But without understanding that all techniques are orienting vehicles pointing at ways of being, ways of being in relationship to the present moment and to one's own mind and one's own experience, we can easily get lost in techniques and in our misguided but entirely understandable attempts to use them to get somewhere else and experience some special result or state that we think is the goal of it all.

When the topic of world peace comes up, the first thing that comes to mind is the violence and aggression of war. But violence and aggression are rooted within the psychology of people, and peace will grow only as human hearts and consciousness evolve.
Many people do not want to be less aggressive or happier. They want more power and more control. They don’t want cooperation. They see themselves as separate from others, and as responsible for their own success. Their world view assumes that they can and should decide what is proper, and that others must conform to their desires. |
|
These people will not be swayed by arguments about the happiness that accrues after several years of meditation, or the peace to be found in recognizing one’s true Self. They want results, and they want them now. Even these people can accept a yoga practice, if it is presented to them in a way they value, which usually means a "physical" practice.

Do you know why you should stretch? Do you know just how flexible you are? Try this simple test to find out how flexible you are and then try incorporating some of these simple stretches into your daily routine.
 | Why Stretch? Stretching is a natural, relaxer that can provide relief from everyday muscle tension and stiffness. It is not only pleasurable, it can alleviate pain and potentially reduce the chance of injury. Good flexibility is crucial for proper posture. Stretching helps produce and keep lubricants between the connective tissue fibers, making one more flexible. |
Being flexible means having the ability to use muscles and joints through their full range of motion. Stretching helps maintain your range of motion, making all physical activity easier to do. It increases flexibility by elongating the cells in your muscles fibers as you stretch. Even after returning to a resting position, the cells remain elongated, which allow for greater motion.
Stretching can help prevent injury. If you are flexible, you are less likely to be injured when your cold muscles undergo sudden jerky movements, as in trying to protect yourself in a fall.

The Message from Water - Die Botschaft des Wassers
Dr. Masaru Emoto is best known for his controversial claim that if human thoughts are directed at water images of the resulting water crystals will be beautiful or ugly depending upon whether the thoughts were positive or negative. Emoto claims this can be achieved through prayer, music or by attaching written words to a container of water.

Masaru Emoto thoughts in regards to the Hurricane 'Katrina':
"Water is the reflection of your heart and soul". Based on this information, it feels like the human population is currently being questioned about their way of living so far. Are modern day people living a life on a daily basis that is full of ‘Love and Thanks’ energy? The answer is obvious: no. On the contrary, we are all immersed in fear and resentment and living a life that is full of gluttony, over consumption and worries.
If so, then the water will reflect that as well. If we do not come together and lead a life full of ‘Love and Thanks’ energy, the water will retaliate furthermore and create water related havoc on this planet and may attack your city next. |

"Lady of the Waters" by Brian Froud | ... Today, with clean water piped directly into our homes and largely taken for granted, it takes a leap of imagination to consider the greater importance of water to those who fetched it daily from the riverside or village well. Deeply dependent on the local water source for their crops and animals, our ancestors had a natural reverence for those places where good, pure water emerged like magic from the depths of the earth. As a result, water has played a role in myth, folklore and sacred rites in cultures all around the globe — particularly in arid lands where the gift of water is most precious ...

The perspective is cross-cultural, the long, rich essay is very well researched and written.
| According to various Siberian tribes, the eagle was the very first shaman, sent to humankind by the gods to heal sickness and suffering. Frustrated that human beings could not understand its speech or ways, the bird mated with a human woman, and she soon gave birth to a child from whom all shamans are now descended. In a mystic cloak of bird feathers, the shaman chants, drums and prays him- or herself into a trance. The soul takes flight, soaring into the spirit world beyond our everyday perception. (Great care must be taken in this exercise, lest the wing-borne soul forgets its way back home.) Likewise, the shamans of Finland call upon their eagle ancestors to lead them into the spirit realms and bring them safely back again. | "Troll Witch II" by Brian Froud
|
Shamans, like eagles, are blessed (or cursed) with the ability to cross between the human world and the realm of the gods, the lands of the living and the lands of the dead. Despite the healing powers this gives them (the "medicine" of their bird ancestry), men and women in shamanic roles were often seen as frightening figures, half-mad by any ordinary measure, poised between co-existent worlds, fully present in none.

 | Stones are memories. They are the bones of the land, the anchors of myth. They may delineate boundaries; may be fashioned into fetishes, objects of power; or may be carried as reminders of where we have been, protecting us upon our travels. Stones may also be signposts, markers on the land where we perceive enduring emblems of the ancient world. Hundreds, even thousands of years later, we can still see the same surface of the stone that the ancient people saw. Signs left on these stones appear as if they were carved only yesterday, even though a thousand years have flown their shadows across the surface of the rock. Through stones and the signs made upon them, the past speaks and reaches out to us. |

The Pythagorean Tarot
Why a "Pythagorean" tarot? This deck began as a project to embody my interpretations of the tarot, based on traditional iconography, archetypal imagery and Pythagorean numerology, into a deck for my own use.
 | In the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn one was expected to copy one's own tarot deck from a master copy and to color it; however, in only a few contemporary orders, such the Builders of the Adytum (BOTA), are students expected to even color their own decks. Although I enjoy and respect many commercial tarot decks, I believe that at some point each serious student should design his or her own deck embodying their understanding of the Arcana. Indeed, as one's understanding evolves over a lifetime, it's not unreasonable to expect to design and construct several decks. On the basis of these beliefs I started work on the Pythagorean Tarot. |
X. Fortuna - Tuche - Fortune
Verse:
The Wheel of Fortune turns; while one declines
Another is upraised, but she assigns
The fate who holds the hidden axle pin,
The sacred source where destinies begin.
Ensure each turn of life the soul refines!
| It is significant that Fortune is trump 10, for the Pythagoreans say that the decad is a higher-order unity, since the decad circles back on itself and encompasses all the elementary numbers. This is symbolized by Greek and Roman numerals, since the Greek numeral for 10 is I, which is also the Roman numeral for 1. The Pythagoreans also call the decad "Fate" and the "All-fulfiller," since it brings all things to their natural ends. It represents the wheel, for it comprises the monad (1) and the ennead (9), which are the hub and the rim. Indeed, it is the outermost rim of the heavens, which turns all the inner spheres. X.Fortune heralds a new epoch of integration. |

Falun Gong - Falun Dafa
| Falun Gong (法輪功 — literally Practice of the Wheel of Law) is a controversial Chinese spiritual movement which was introduced in 1992 by Li Hongzhi. Central to Falun Gong are five sets of exercises (four standing, and one sitting) that involve meditation and are said to help in the purification of the mind and the body. Many teachings are similar to those in Buddhism and Taoism — though it adds a conservative morality and several New Age and apocalyptic beliefs. Also known as Falun Dafa, the practice has grown swiftly in popularity around the world. |
A good Overview by Wikipedia (English)
Falun Dafa is a practice that has brought better health and inner peace to millions around the world. We call it a cultivation practice: "cultivation" refers to the improvement of one's heart and mind through the careful study of universal principles based on truthfulness, benevolence, and forbearance; "practice" means doing exercises and meditation to energize the body.
Learning Falun Dafa is easy. The practice is simple, powerful, and absolutely free. |

Zen Stories to Tell Your Neighbors
Nothing captures our attention quite like a good story. Long before there was television, movies, radio, and even books, people told stories as a way to entertain and educate. Storytelling was as important to prehistoric cave-dwellers eating antelope around a fire as it is to corporate executives doing lunch. It's in our human blood. We love the development of plot and character, the climax, the resolution, the vicarious thrill of living and learning through tales of others sufferings and triumphs.
 | All of literature and media is but an extension of the more basic urge to tell a good story. The advantage of storytelling, though, is that you do it in person - right there, right in front of people, so you get to see, hear, and feel their reactions. Unlike books and television, storytelling is much more interactive and personal. You don't do it alone, unless you're quite psychotic.... but that's another story. |
Holy Man
Word spread across the countryside about the wise Holy Man who lived in a small house atop the mountain. A man from the village decided to make the long and difficult journey to visit him. When he arrived at the house, he saw an old servant inside who greeted him at the door. "I would like to see the wise Holy Man," he said to the servant. The servant smiled and led him inside. As they walked through the house, the man from the village looked eagerly around the house, anticipating his encounter with the Holy Man. Before he knew it, he had been led to the back door and escorted outside. He stopped and turned to the servant, "But I want to see the Holy Man!"
"You already have," said the old man. "Everyone you may meet in life, even if they appear plain and insignificant... see each of them as a wise Holy Man. If you do this, then whatever problem you brought here today will be solved." |

Learn About Tibetan Buddhism
Tilopa / 988 - 1069 | The Kagyu Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism traces its origins to Shakyamuni Buddha through Marpa the Great Translator, who three times traveled to India to bring back authentic Buddhist teachings to Tibet. His teacher, Naropa, received the lineage transmission from Tilopa and so on, back to the Buddha himself.
The Kagyu Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, one of the four major schools of Buddhism preserved and practiced in Tibet. The term Karma Triyana Dharmachakra is from the Sanskrit and translates loosely as "the place under the spiritual guidance and protection of His Holiness the Gyalwa Karmapa (Karma) where all three (Tri) levels (yana) of the Buddha's teachings (Dharma) are preserved and taught (chakra)." |
The Tibetan Buddhist Tardition is especially rich because the teachings of the Buddha were preserved in their entirety and elaborated upon over the centuries by meditators who took the teachings to heart and brought them to full fruition in their own mind streams. The Kagyu, or "practice" lineage, contributed greatly to this tradition through the attainment and teachings of its extraordinary practitioners, including Marpa Lotsawa, the great translator; Jetsun Milarepa, Tibet's greatest yogi; and continuing with the succession of seventeen Gyalwa Karmapas.
This tradition continues unbroken to the present day, and the teachings of enlightened Kagyu masters are considered among the most precious jewels of spiritual insight and practical guidance in the world.

Mythic Naturalism
The Trinity. This is another of those universal motifs that are found in sacred stories all over the world. In Hinduism, there is Brahma (Creator), Vishnu (Preserver), and Shiva (Destroyer). In ancient Greece, there was Zeus (Lord of Heaven), Poseidon (Lord of the Sea), and Hades (Lord of the Underworld). In Buddhism there is the Triratna: Buddha (Consciousness), Dharma (Divine Way), and Sangha (Order). Of course the West is most familiar with the Christian Trinity: Father (Power), Son (Intelligence), and the Holy Spirit (Love). There are many such examples.
Celestial Apparition -- Click itfor a larger view | In fact, the earliest known representation of the trinity is in a french cave at Angles-sur-l'Anglin - 3 Goddesses (each with prominent pubic triangles) carved in rock about 15,000 years ago.
Three seems to have a special significance, not only in the depths of the human psyche, but in the exterior cosmos as well. Three is the totality of time (past, present, and future) and the totality of space (length, width, and height). It is the domains above, the domains below, and the world in between. It is the Macrocosm of the incomprehensibly big, the Microcosm of the impenetrably small, and the Mesocosm of our everyday experience. But this painting is not about the trinity ... |
