These Mysterious People

Reading material for over the weekend:

The twenty-five articles published in this book were originally written for Northcliffe Newspapers, Ltd. They first appeared in the "Bristol Evening World" in April and May, 1934. Their claim on the interest of the book-reading public lies in the fact that they fill a gap. Although Psychical Research and Spiritualism has a vast literature no single book has yet presented, in the form of short narratives, the stories of famous mediums of the past and present. I wish to stress that these narratives were written for the general public. It was my purpose to show that there are true stories which vie in fascination with the most popular thrillers. Also that it is time enough to know of the existence of such mysteries and the attempts at their unveiling by men of science.

These Mysterious People by Nandor Fodor. (English)
Many people are familiar with the work of Nandor Fodor through his groundbreaking book "An Encyclopaedia of Psychic Science", published in 1934. This monumental volume established Fodor as an authority on psychic phenomena, but his later works were equally informative and absorbing.
In "These Mysterious People" Fodor presents 25 short, riveting articles covering all the key figures and events in psychical research and the early spiritualist movement.

2012: Is It True?

image

I am beginning to see around me evidence that this man's prophecy was correct. Why that would be so is another matter entirely, and one that I cannot address except with specu-lation, but I can say that, if things keep deteriorating at the present rate, there are going to be environmental disasters of unprecedented ferocity in a few years, and I would not be surprised if they weren't upon us right around 2012.

Human Living Vampires

Forensic nurses, regardless of their practice area, will at times come in contact with the same types of deviant behavior. Some of these behaviors may be considered rare or even non-existent. It is to our benefit that we share our investigative experiences with these cases. Vampirism is one such behavior.

There are beliefs and superstitions regarding vampires that date back to medieval Europe. The vampire is thought to be of Slavic origin. They are fictional characters that are believed to be evil spirits that have been refused entry into another world after death because of some unsuitable behavior. They must drink the blood of the living in order to sustain themselves. These mythical characters live in cemeteries and only leave their gravesite at night. They do not have a real identity and therefore do not cast a shadow or a reflection in a mirror.
