Shaolin Kung Fu

Kung fu, also spelled gung fu, is a generic term for martial arts originating in China. A direct translation of the term would be "hard work" or "effort". Shaolin is a subset of kung fu that was studied in temples between around 500 AD until the destruction of the temples in the early 1920's.

The Northern Shaolim style of kung fu is one of the most prominent traditional northern styles of Chinese martial arts. The northern styles of kung-fu generally emphasize long range techniques, quick advances and retreats, wide stances, kicking and leaping techniques, whirling circular blocks, quickness, agility, and aggressive attacks. The system teaches empty-hand techniques and weaponry through predetermined combinations, routines, or movement of sets.

Lam Sai Wing was one of the best fighters of his time, an outstanding master of Southern Shaolin Hung Gar Kung Fu and a disciple of the legendary Wong Fei Hung.
At the beginning of twentieth century, supposedly in 1917-1923, when Lam Sai Wing was the Chief Instructor in hand-to-hand combat in the armed forces of Fujian province, he wrote three books on traditional Shaolin methods of the achievement of the highest mastership.
