Ash - Journal of Experimental Spirituality

Ashé is a project born of the alembic of connections and communications. It represents the manifestation of a joy in sharing diverse perspectives on the spiritual path--sometimes synchronous, sometimes discordant; sometimes beautifully ecumenical and others unforgiving and self-critical. Above all else, Ashé is intended to be a nexus for spiritual possibility. An interchange of voices often silenced or ignored. Ashé provides a space for seekers to speak for themselves without the academic filter of the 'objective observer.'

The Arthurian Legends

Arthurian legend has fascinated us from its earliest inception. Yet it owes so little to its historical roots that many doubt whether there even was such a person as Arthur. He is, rather, a creation of the storytellers who rescued him, whoever he really was, from the obscurity that engulfed so many figures in the Dark Ages. In their hands he and his followers have grown to represent, even amidst disappointment and defeat, amidst darkness and despair, the dream of a brighter world.

Bild: Catch a Falling Star by David Delamare

How does he do it? Salem promises that he’s not getting any help from hidden cameras or spies in the audience, and he offers $100,000 to anyone who can prove otherwise. His tricks are mind-blowing. Some of them are magic; others make you believe he actually can read your mind.

Tibetan Mandalas - Tibetische Mandalas

Mandala is Sanskrit for circle, polygon, community, connection.
The Mandala is a symbol of man or woman in the world, a support for the meditating person.
The mandala is often illustrated as a palace with four gates, facing the four corners of the Earth.
The Mandala shown here is connected with the Buddha Vajrasattva, who symbolises the original crystalline purity.
In the centre is a lotus blossom with eight petals, resting on a bed of jewels.

In the next place are the walls of the palace with gates towards the four corners of the earth. The gates are guarded by four angry doorkeepers.
Before the meditating person arrives at the gates, she must, however, pass the four outer circles: the purifying fire of wisdom, the vajra circle, the circle with the eight tombs, the lotus circle.

An overview and glossary of mandala components: Exploring the Mandala by Jytte Hansen, Albertslund, Denmark. (English)

Another excellent overview: What is a Mandala by the Mandala Project. Check also the Mandala Gallery. (English)

Representations of the spiritual embodiment of the Buddha are dkyil khor, or mandalas. The word dkyil khor means "center-circumference," and describes both the essential geometric structure and ritual significance of mandalas. Mandala: Buddhist Tantric Diagrams by Patrick A. George. (English)

The collection featured 14 fine Tibetan paintings of mandalas dating from the 13th to the 16th centuries, from Rossi & Rossi, London. While six of the paintings in the exhibition are now in private collections, seven are still available for purchase.

Alchemy Lab Directory

This website is dedicated to helping individuals understand and apply the principles of alchemy. The most basic tenet of alchemy is that there are two primary ways of knowing reality, and learning to work with both of them is how we must begin the journey of transformation.
The first way of knowing is the rational, deductive, argumentative, intellectual thinking that is the hallmark of science and our patriarchal Western culture. The alchemists called this Solar Consciousness and assigned it many code words, such as the Sun, Sulfur, the King, the Father, Spirit, and ultimately, the One Mind of the universe.

Throughout this website, whenever the material involves left-brain activity like lists, linear thought, schematics, formulae, arguments and logic, the icon used will be Solar.
The alchemists called the other way of knowing Lunar Consciousness. This intelligence of the heart is a non-linear, image-driven, intuitive way of thinking that is an accepted tool of the arts and religion. Among its many symbols are the Moon, Mercury, the Queen, the Holy Ghost, Soul, and ultimately, the One Thing of the universe. Throughout this website, whenever the material involves right-brain activity dealing with drawings, paintings, mandalas, symbols, music, and meditation, the icon will be the Lunar glyph.
Whenever possible, material will be presented from both the King's and the Queen's viewpoints.

Introduction: Buddhism

This web site were written for the students of my class on Buddhist Psychology. Although the religious aspects of Buddhism are discussed, I am far more interested in presenting Buddhism's philosophical and psychological side. It is not necessary to believe in heavens or hells, in gods, demons, or ghosts, or even in rebirth or reincarnation in order to benefit from the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama ... I encourage all of you to become familiar with Buddhism, and I humbly suggest that these pages are a good place to begin!

History of Tarot and Cartomancy

Tarot, and related card divination systems, has a wonderfully bizarre history which ranges from wealthy Italian Renaissance families (who had their own decks sumptuously hand painted) to the 18th century seer, Mademoiselle LeNormand, fortune teller to the Empress Josephine. In the 19th and 20th centuries, the tarot was developed further by a variety of colourful characters in France, Britain and America, among whom one of the most colourful was undoubtedly the self-styled 'Great Beast', Aleister Crowley.

All in the Cards - The Unpredictable History of Tarot and Cartomancy by Huw Collingbourne.

This page focuses upon those packs which were conceived and/or published in England: Playing Cards, Tarot and Divination - The History of Playing Cards and Fortune Telling.

Check out the rest of the site. A lot of great images and facts on the history of playing cards

The Museum contains 3603 decks in the moment, most of them complete, other in fragmentary form from all centuries of playing card history. The Time Line gives an overview about Decks and related articles from ca. 1370 - 1800. The links on this list lead often to sources, which are included in the Museum.

Phrenology - Phrenologie

Phrenology was a science of character divination, faculty psychology, theory of brain and what the 19th-century phrenologists called "the only true science of mind." Phrenology came from the theories of the idiosyncratic Viennese physician Franz Joseph Gall (1758-1828).

Indian Gods and Goddesses

SURYA is one of the three chief gods of the Vedas. As one of the spheres, the physical sun is the celestial form of fire, Agni, and source of all life. SURYA is at the center of the spheres.Above it are the esoteric spheres of the Supreme Ruler and below it are the manifest spheres of the moon and the earth.
The other name of SURYA is SAVITRI, which means brilliance. In the later ages, like other many Vedic gods, this god became more or less a mythical figure superseded by Vishnu, who came to be regarded by Hindus as the supreme manifestation of the self-Existent the Supreme God. Still the most celebrated mantra (hymn), known as GAYATRI Mantra, is the incantation addressed to SURYA. Also many of the forms of meditation, prayers and rituals used in the daily ceremonies of Hindu Brahmins are addressed to this god.

The Mayan civilization created magnificent temples and excelled in the arts, astronomy and culture.

The mystery of their demise, and the magnificence of their achievements both perplex and intrigue visitors. As you explore the temples, you will see panoramic views of the city, read about the history and culture of the Maya, view artifacts, and listen to the sounds that bring Tikal to life.

Journey through Tikal by Studio360 Inc. The Maya Calendar was the center of Maya life and their greatest cultural achievement. The Maya Calendar's ancestral knowledge guided the Maya's existence from the moment of their birth and there was little that escaped its influence.
