10. Planet / 10th Planet

The big question now: How does the 10th planet affect my daily horoscope?
Die grosse Frage jetzt: Wie beeinflusst der 10. Planet nun mein tägliches Horoskop?

A planet larger than Pluto has been discovered in the outlying regions of the solar system. The planet is a typical member of the Kuiper belt, but its sheer size in relation to the nine planets already known means that it can only be classified as a planet.

A chunk of rock and ice that may be a planet has been discovered in the farthest reaches of the solar system, astronomers announced Friday. The object, currently called 2003 UB313, orbits the sun and is larger than Pluto, traditionally considered the ninth planet in the solar system.

A formal proposal could come within a week or two. But some astronomers see no easy resolution.

UPDATE 30.09.05 @ 13.11 Uhr

THE WORLD still waits, with bated breath, to know whether 2003 UB313, the object larger and farther away than Pluto whose discovery was revealed at the end of July, ends up as a planet or a mere Kuiper belt object, and what it will be called.

Scientists have measured the size of a solar system object discovered last year and confirmed that it is larger than Pluto.
